How to connect and maintain your acrylic ant outworld
- Align the activity area port with your test tube opening and press gently until seated. No adhesive needed for a snug fit.
- Place the outworld on a flat, stable surface. Ants orient fast: give them 30-60 minutes to explore before adding food.
- Clean the interior weekly with a damp cotton swab. Avoid soap or chemical cleaners: acrylic scratches and residue harms ants.
- Keep the unit out of direct sunlight. Prolonged UV exposure yellows acrylic and raises internal temperature above safe ranges for most species.
- When the colony outgrows this area (typically 80-150 workers for small species like Lasius niger), connect a second unit or transition to a full formicarium from our formicarium collection.

If you are using an unusually wide or narrow tube, measure your tube's outer diameter before ordering. How long does shipping take, and is tracking included?

Will the acrylic scratch or yellow over time?
Acrylic stays clear for years when kept away from direct sunlight and cleaned with water only. Abrasive tools or alcohol-based cleaners will scratch and cloud the surface. Used correctly, this unit stays observation-quality clear through multiple colony cycles.
How is this different from a full acrylic formicarium?
A formicarium has chambers, tunnels, and a built-in nest structure. This activity area is an outworld only: open space for foraging, feeding, and waste disposal.
